  1. You always brighten my day. Your first #1 made me laugh out loud and feel so much better, I’m finishing up my second book. You’ve given me permission to have fun and STOP being a perfectionist.
I was a technical illustrator and writer, graphic artist, worked for a newspaper, wrote a master’s thesis, and an undergraduate thesis, plus 20 years of teaching and lesson plans, and curriculum development. Writing my first book was equivalent to the amount of research I did for my master’s thesis. Also, technical writing is totally different than fiction writing. I have my bible “The Chicago Manual of Style” on my desk. Although I did my own first cover I ended up hiring an excellent book designer to redesign my covers-worth every penny. I actually worked as a proofreader-and typographical coder -For Ruben Donelly. However, I still paid two editors, one story and development, the other grammar etc. worth every penny. You give great advice. You are so right about making your cover fit your genre. My first cover was a great graphic design if I were selling coffee lol. I soon realized after looking at hundreds of traditional cozy mystery covers that mine didn’t come close to them. The new covers fit the genre. Thanks for all the advice. I love your rollicking podcast. I hope to visit Australia and New Zealand-they’ve been on my bucket list since I was in first grade.
